Pour rejoindre Pingyao a Xi’an, nous optons pour le Bullet Train, l’equivalent du TGV en France. La distance se fera en 3 heures au lieu de 10 et le cout légèrement supérieur a l’option couchette d’un tortillard. Distance 750 kms avec plusieurs arrêts. Le design du train est résolument moderne, roule a 350 km/h, son intérieur est spacieux, fauteuil inclinable et confortable avec tablette et l’allée avec tele en son centre ( comme dans certains avions )….et interdiction absolue de fumer sous peine de faire connaissance avec les prisons locales. Un service de repas payant est offert…et pour clôturer le chapitre, des toilettes modernes a l’européenne.

Xi'an est une belle grande ville de 8.5 millions d'habitants complètement indisciplinés mais combien sympa. En fait, la ville doit sa récente prospérité à une découverte qui a bouleversé la région en 1974. La découverte est quasiment miraculeuse puisque ce sont des paysans chinois qui en creusant un nouveau puits sont tombés sur des débris plutôt étranges et de là, on connaît la suite. La fameuse "Armée enterrée" classée au patrimoine mondial de l'humanité en 1997 est un des sites les plus visités au monde. Si on ajoute à cela 22 siècles d'histoire, des soldats mesurant de 1.75 mètre à 1.96 parfaitement moulés par centaines, c'est l'émerveillement assuré, un "must" à visiter absolument. Précision, le site par lui-même est situé à quelques 70 kilomètres de Xi'an.

Il y a aussi un autre lieu que nous avons visité mais qui nous a déçu malgré la bonne volonté du guide du Routard ( 3 sacs à dos ), à savoir le musée enterré de Han Yangling qui lui fut découvert en 1990 lors de futurs travaux d'autoroute. Disons qu'on aurait pu s'en passer.

Un autre site 3 sacs à dos nous a déçu, c'est la "Grande mosquée de Xi'an". Rien à voir, circuler...mais peut- être qu'on a rien compris.

Par contre, le quartier Hui est à découvrir absolument. C'est le quartier musulman chinois. L'animation naturelle des lieux est fantastique, s'y perdre est merveilleux, prendre quelques risques quant aux multiples brochettes et plats divers proposées par une multitude de commerçants est une riche idée, chercher un souvenir ou juste y aller pour le plaisir des yeux et des narines, le quartier est la destination avec satisfaction assurée...et puis côté photo, c'est pas mal non plus.

La tour de la Cloche et la tour du Tambour sont également à découvrir le jour comme la nuit. Xi'an a su mettre ses monuments en valeur et les éclairages sont superbes.
The Bell and Drum Towers have to be discovered as well either during the day or at night. Xi'An has done a great job to light these towers at night.

et nous avons rencontre une famille canadienne de Ottawa qui voyage pour un an aussi. Nous les avions vu une premiere fois a la gare de Pingyao, puis 2 jours de suite a Xi'An et nos chemins se croiseront de nouveau a Chengdu...
