Hong Kong (suite et fin) - October 2-8, 2015

La remise du décalage horaire a été plus que laborieuse, ceci dit, ça ne nous a pas empêché de nous mettre de bonne humeur et de profiter de notre séjour dans cette ville presque magique et féerique aux allures chino-nord-américaines.

For whatever reasons, it has been tough to get over the jet lag. This being said, it has not prevented us to be in a good mood and to enjoy this almost magical and fairy like city which allies Chinese and North American ambiance.

Le temps n'est pourtant de la partie. Le typhon, catégorie 3, y est certainement pour quelque chose. Ici, c'est un climat tropical, un avantage certes surtout quand il pleut, au moins, on n'a pas froid. Donc, le typhon est bien passé mais les pluies torrentielles, elles, sont bien là. Ça ne dure pas très longtemps mais quand ça tombe, le parapluie n'est plus suffisant.

The weather is not with us. The typhoon, type 3, is the culprit. Here, it's a tropical climate. However, at least when it rains, we are not cold. The typhoon did go by, but the rain is here. It does not last long, but when it pours, the umbrella is not even enough.

Bref, Hong Kong se découvre à pied, en Ding Ding, en taxi, en bus ou en métro . Les transports en commun sont très bien faits, intelligemment conçus et la signalisation facile à comprendre même pour ceux qui ne connaissent ni l'anglais ni le cantonnais. Le traffic y est aux heures de pointe intense, surtout dans le métro. Ici le vieux se mélange au neuf, le moderne au vieux quartiers, les pauvres côtoient les riches. C'est donc dans une chaleur moite, un ciel menaçant et l'appareil photo en main que nous parcourons cette ville aux vibrations étonnantes et aux odeurs parfois prenantes et surprenantes.

We are discovering Hong Kong by foot, with the Ding Ding, in a cab, by bus or with the metro. The public transportation system is very good, well designed and the signs are easy to understand for those who don't know any English nor any Cantonese. Traffic is very dense, especially in the metro. Here, old is mixed with new, the poor with the rich. It's under a wet heat, a threatening sky and the camera on hand that we discover the city.

Le quartier "Central" est le quartier des affaires. Ici on fait de l'argent, beaucoup d'argent, les banques les plus prestigieuses y ont élu domicile, les bijoutiers et les créateurs de mode les plus célèbres sont là aussi. C'est aussi ici au bord du fleuve que les traversiers emmènent leurs clients vers Kowloon.

''Central'' is the business area. Here, you make money, a lot of money. The most prestigious banks have their headquarters there. Jewelry stores, famous fashion stores are there as well. It's also from this neighbourhood that you take the ferry to go Kowloon.

Sheung Wan Ce quartier chinois, le plus pittoresque de Hong Kong, déborde d'une activité permanente. Vous y trouverez toutes sortes de boutiques traditionnelles chinoises, de la pharmacopée au poisson séché. Western est une ruche vibrante de boutiques, de marchés exotiques et de ruelles en escaliers.
Sheung Wan/Western. This Chinese neighborhood, one of the most picturesque of Hong Kong is very lively. You will find there many traditional Chinese stores, from pharmacy items to dried fishes on its markets.

Un travelator, un escalator qui n'en finit pas de monter - plus de 15 minutes. A travelator, an escalator that never ends. Over 15 minutes!

Parmi les visites, nous sommes allés voir le "Hong Kong Museum of History". Construit en 1975, sa vocation est de préserver et de promouvoir l'héritage culturel et historique de Hong Kong...et ça commence il y a 400 millions d'années jusqu'à nos jours en passant par la préhistoire, les dynasties Han et Qing, le folklore à Hong Kong, la guerre de l'opium et la cession de Hong Kong, l'occupation japonaise, la métropole de nos jours et le retour de Hong Kong à la Chine. C'est tellement vaste et superbement bien fait que nous nous y sommes pris à 2 fois pour tout finir. ( comprendre 2 jours : pour ceux et celles que ça intéresse, le mercredi, c'est gratuit ).

We have visited the ''Hong Kong Museum of History". Built in 1975, its goal is to promote the historical and cultural heritage of Hong Kong... and this starts over 400 millions of years ago until nowadays. This includes prehistory, the Han and Qing dynasties, folklore in Hong Kong, the opium wars and the cessation of Hong Kong, the Japanese occupation, the city nowadays and the reunification of Hong Kong to China. It's so big and so well done that we had to go 2 days to finish it all... The entrance is free on Wednesdays.

Aujourd'hui, les nuages ont fait place au soleil et nous en avons profité pour aller à Victoria Peak pour voir le magnifique panorama sur la ville. Un funiculaire nous y emmènera en aller simple ( choix de notre part , nous voulions redescendre à pied histoire de s'imprégner du paysage ).

Today, the clouds have left some room to the sun and we went to Victoria Peak to see the panorama over the city. A cable will take us there and we will happily walk down.

Et sans parler des innombrables marchés que nous avons savoureusement parcouru au fil de nos ballades. Le marché Stanley situé dans un village de pêcheurs ( une ancienne garnison britannique, aujourd'hui un marché à ciel ouvert très réputé à Hong Kong ), le marché "ladies market" et tant d'autres. Toute une atmosphère. Nous, on a vraiment aimé.

And let's not forget all the markets. The Stanley market in a village of fishermen (a former British garnison, today a very famous market in Hong Kong), the Ladies' market and many others. What an ambiance! We loved it!

J'en avais pas encore parlé mais Hong Kong n'est pas qu'un territoire. C'est aussi des îles comme Lantau .

Lantau (1/2H de Hong Kong) Autre aspect inattendu de Hong Kong, les 262 îles de l'archipel. Parmi elles, l'île de Lantau est la plus grande, sur laquelle se trouve le Grand Bouddha de bronze, jouxtant le monastère de Po Lin. Tai O est un authentique village de pêcheurs sur pilotis.

Nous, on a choisi d'y aller par ferry, tellement plus sympa que le métro et en plus la vue maritime sur Hong Kong est à couper le souffle.

And finally, I haven't spoken about it, but Hong Kong is not only a territory. There are 262 islands. The Island of Lantau is the largest and this is where you can see the Big Buddha close to the monastery in Po Lin. Tai O is an authentic village of fishermen.
