Oscar and Alicia in Linares

We have now been on the road about 5 months and we have met many people who have opened their door to us, with simplicity and always much generosity. Oscar and Alicia are among these  people and have really gone above and beyond in terms of hospitality. In addition they have an interesting story.

Oscar left Chile under the dictature of Pinochet because he was a socialist, and was risking to be taken to jail. He left for Spain, but realized soon that Spain was also living under a dictature with Franco. He ended up in Strasbourg, France. He started working cleaning up dishes in a restaurant. After a few months, he brought his fiancee from Chile to France. He had been working for about a year at Alicia's and her husband's restaurant. On Oscar's wedding day with his Chilean fiancee, he danced two tangos with Alicia and this was enough for their destiny to change. Alicia left her husband and her two children of 7 and 14 years old. Oscar left his Chilean wife and within two weeks, they were starting from scratch again. They worked really hard, managed to own their own restaurant in Strasbourg. In the end, Alicia was eager to leave France and come to Chile. About 15 years ago, they did it again and moved to Chile ! Life has taken their toll on them, they have not succeeded as they would have liked in Chile, but they still love each other. Still after 30 years, Oscar  has only eyes for his ''gringa'' and for the rest, they take it one day at a time !
