32 km aujourd'hui et oui, 42km, cela parait possible! 32 km today and yes, 42K seem like an attainable goal!

Quelques photos ci-dessous:

Quite a few things have happened in the last three weeks, which prevented me from blogging. First of all, my best half from Montreal has arrived! Pom-pom came here for a look-see and house hunting trip.

This being said, he was not very lucky the first weeks. It rained cats and dogs every day. I took a day off to go see condos with him and we walked under sheets of rain all day. Welcome to Vancouver! However, we did not take it easy on our training. Pom arrived on a Saturday and already on the Sunday, we ran 29 kilometers and crossed the Lions Gate Bridge. As Pom has only been training in a gym in Montreal, he joined my group, the 4h15. Well, he was not even tired. He was heading the group most of the time! I was floored, but I should not have been. After more than 30 years, I should know he is wonderful! On both Wednesdays, we did our Hill training. The first Wednesday, as usual, it was pouring and on the second Wednesday, some light rain, but at least, we were not completed soaked. 9 hills, one after the others, and Pom was again in the middle of the pack (with runners who run the the marathon in less than 4 hours). Not bad at all! The second Sunday, 29 k again and I suffered! I was exhausted when we arrived, not Pom.... Otherwise, we have enjoyed 15 days of food, seafood restaurant, twice Sushi, one dim-sum, another time Chinese, once Italian! We did not want to feel down! In addition to our runs and culinary experiences, we walked through the city and just enjoyed being together again. A few pictures above.

I am through half the training, but I am hurt!

English at the bottom

Last week, regular training in the week and on Sunday, 26kms under the rain and on a chilly day. At least, we were running as a group, otherwise, personnally, it would have been mission impossible! The route was very pretty, along the sea. I have discovered new beaches in Vancouver and I promised myself that I would come back with my best half! In the end, after 26km, not in too bad of a shape! Until Tuesday, the quadricept felt like marmelade, and my hip started to lock. Tuesday evening, I push through and attend the tempo run of 6k. During the day on Wednesday, I can hardly walk, it is raining but it is hill training. Easy to find an excuse in this case.... I go back to the apartment, take 2 advils, one anti-inflammatory pill and I limp to the Running Room. When I start running, it is very painful, but the more I rain, the less I hurt. Then, that's it, 6 hills up and down, one after the other. Thursday and Friday, same deal, I can hardly walk and needless to say that climbing inside the bed leads to screams. I cannot lift the leg on Thursday night. I must be tired as I don`t even have the common sense to try climbing in the bed on the other side, which would have been easier. Saturday, I just cannot run and I think that`s wise because I do feel better. Today, program 19 kms, wonderful weather, blue sky, temperature of 10-11 and bright sunshine. The mountains appear with their snowy top in the background and the tulips are blooming. I am running. My hip is hitching but I could not miss this. Now that I am cold, the pain is coming back and I will probably have a problem to walk tomorrow. Probably time to go see a chiropractor... Let`s see how it goes... And during this time, it is still snowing in Montreal and Pom is training at the gym.

Et l'entrainement continue : semaine 6 - And the training goes on - 6th week

English at the bottom

6th week and the training goes on! It`s starting to be a little bit more difficult: On Tuesday, as usual, our 6km run fairly quickly and at a steady speed. On Wednesday, hills, 4 times in a row, we run up hill, we run downhill, uphill, downhill... and this, just to build muscles. No doubt, this must work, Thursday morning, my thighs are hurting! We have been told that our thighs are going to get bigger as the program of running on hills will go on for another 5 or 6 weeks, and we will add hills every week. I am not sure about the idea that my thighs will get bigger. When I was about 15-16 years old, I was walking in the streets and was wearing a skirt. At that time, I heard a comment behind me stating I had lovely rugbymen calves. Now, I am headed straigh to halterophiles thighs. And I thought I was going to loose fat and cellulite... Otherwise, on Thursday at 5pm, my boss came to me with tickets to go see the Harlem GlobeTrotters at the Vancouver Stadium. I was not going to miss this, right? In the end, disappointing show. I shoul dhave trained. Yesterday, 6km easy and today endurance training : 23 kms!!! I have never run for this long, therefore I am happy. The weather was a little bit cold but our running group was rewarded by a fantastic view from the top of the Lions Gate Bridge on the Vancouver. And during this time, Pom-pom keeps in training in a gym in Montreal. Still minus 15 there, brrrr. I don`t miss this. Have a nice week!

5e semaine d'entrainement - 5th week of training

English at the bottom on this post.

No posting on the blog last week as I went to Toronto for one day and was therefore able to spend a long week-end in Montreal with Pom-pom. It does not mean Idid not train, but running outside with minus 15, no, thank you, a bit too chilly for me... Therefore, last week, with Pom-pom, we went to the gym where I was able to move my butt in a zumba class and crush the pedals of a bike during a spinning class. Back in Vancouver on Monday, I was running again on Tuesday and Wednesday under pouring rain, I finished a 10 km with some difficulty. Difficult with the jet lag and the many sort of cheeses eaten in Montreal.... Therefore on Thursday, impossible to get me out, legs were hurting, cold outside, tired, in short, all excuses were valid for not running the 8km on the training plan. The worst is that even if I missed the training only once that week, I felt guilty, therefore, Saturday, here we go, I started running again my 6k, before completing yesterday the 19k with the Running Room group. From time to time, you have really push yourself to go out and run, but yesterday, the weather was beautiful! It was so nice that even after running the 19k in the morning, I went for a long walk on the Sea Wall for almost 2 hours. Today, it`s family day and am not working. I have therefore special thoughts for all my family whose closest member is located about 1000 kms away and is turning 25 tomorrow... Not so easy our decisions ! ... during this time, it`s still too cold in Quebec for Pom-pom to properly train for the marathon. He is trying hard though as he goes to the gym and alternates running on the treadmill and spinning.... lots of hugs and kisses.

Semaine 3 d'entrainement - Week 3 of training

English at the bottom

Here are the famous shoes, as you can see, they are not the most discreet! Who cares, one stays young anyway one can!

Otherwise, third week of completed training and for now, I am holding up to my schedule of 5 times a week. In fact, I even think I am starting to improve, which is stimulating. Tuesday evening, for the tempo run, 6km in 33 min38 seconds and Wednesday 10km in 1hour and 29 seconds. Not too difficult to follow during both training sessions and on Tuesday, I was even able to improve on my personal record in 5mn29. Thursday, my 6 kms were okay but Saturday morning, I did feel the effects of 2 glasses of white wine with nacho-cheese. Therefore, Saturday night, to prepare for the next day`s run, it`s sushi with a Nanaimo Bar (small cake with chocolate and coco nut). Let`s not overdo it! On Thursday, I must say it was really hard to go for the run. It was my third day in a row of running, it was raining a bit, it was dark outside and I had arrived at the apartment later than anticipated. This is when you cannot listen to yourself as it is easy to undress and sit in the armchair for the rest of the evening... As far as food is concerned, eat balanced with about half of your intake in carbohydrates especially before a long run and drink a lot, before, during and after the run not to be dehydrated. Today, Sunday, 16 km in the 4h15 mn group. Not too difficult, the legs a little bit heavy upon arrival. However, our pace leader, Seymour is a very interesting guy. He is passionated by history, which means that he does not stop chatting about all the areas and historical buildings of Vancouver. He is a real encyclopedia on legs who will tell you that such building was built after 2000, that they erected this totel pole for the 100 anniversary of Vancouver, that such dyke was built by people without work on welfare, which means that the kilometers pass without you really noticing. The weather was cloudy this morning although fairly bright. We could enjoy the view while crossing the Burrard Bridge. My thoughts go to my better half in Montreal which had to live with temperature as low as minus 29 this morning. Who wants to train outside in these conditions even if I know he is going back to the gym? Not too many people enjoying running on a treadmill!

English at the bottom

Second week of training already finished! In the end, 43kms in the legs this week! Yep, a marathon in itself! Not that easy to run 5 times a week, you seriously need to kick your butt. Monday, cross training with yogo and pool and jaccuzi (which is relaxing). Tuesday, 6k very fast (for me) with the group, Wednesday 10 k fast with the group again. Thursday, it's hell 8 k on my own, and the legs are heavy, Friday, rest and this time, don't even think about going to the pool; Saturday, 6 k and after I deserved a glass of white wine at lunch and in the evening, restaurant with my friend, Louise (but I east pasta... thinking about the Sunday run) and we share a bottle of white wine. Today, Sunday, 13 k fairly slowly with the 4 hour group! Tomorrow, rest, more exactly cross training.... By the way, I bouth new shoes. My old ones were pink fluo and the new ones are orange, pink, blue and yellow. In short, everybody notices my feet and all the young people compliment me on them!!! Not sure about that... Otherwise, it`s becoming serious. I went from: ``I register to the clinic`` to ``I register to the race``. Yes, it`s decided, come and cheer on May 3, 2013 in Vancouver for the BMO Marathon! and guess, I have registered my better half, Pompom as well! He knows (we do talk) and I sent him the training program!

New Year Resolution: Training for a Marathon

English at the bottom of this post...

Cela faisait longtemps !

It's been a long time... Like everybody else, busy at work, the routine is back especially now that I have gone back to work. After almost 6 months in Vancouver, it has been quite challenging to manage the long distance relation with my beloved husband and just to start working again...It's boring, I must say... Back to getting up, going to work, trying to balance work load and just life! One thing is sure: 4-5 years ago, I would never have thought I would ever run. I would probably have thought you are crazy. Even when I was going to school, I had never run more than 1km without stopping. Since I have been in Vancouver, I have been very disciplined. I am running 4-5 times a week on average. After my half Marathon in September, I would never have thought that I would try anything else. But I am now seriously thinking of running a Marathon early May. Proof : I have registered for the Marathon Clinic with the Running Room and I have done my first week of training. It has been chilly to run this week (minus 7C this morning), but apart from Tuesday, when it was pouring, the other days have been great! Today, 13k with the group and I felt great! I even thought the group was going a little bit too slow (4h30 group to finish the Marathon). Next week, it's decided, I am joining the 4h15 group...Support me in this challenge! The advise of this week is to have a mantra. I have 2: No Gain, No Pain and ``one feet in front of the other!``
