We leave the city of Peniche for Sintra, a 3 star city according to the French guidebook, Michelin. The sky is overcast and the wind still with us along our trip until our next camping close to Cascais.
We decide once again to stay in a bungalow, because of the wind (and because of the temperature as well) at the cost of 30 euros per night.
We drive to Sintra and our first visit is for the Castle of Pena after having taken the bus for only a few kilometers from downtown, but fairly scary with guaranteed chills. Indeed, the castle is set on top of one of the culminating point of the serra.

At first sight (and even after the second sight), the castle of Pena does remind you of Walt Disney (oupie...oups). In fact, it is our friend Ferdinand's fault, yes, Ferdinand II, a king... with extravagant artistic taste. A romantic fantasy built in the middle of the 19th century around an old convent dating back from the 16th century. The Palacio National da Pena is still worth a visit.

The following day, (today May 19th), the wind is still here but the sky is blue. Back to Sintra! We have work to do. Sintra is part of the world Heritage and over only a few square kilometres, there are many monuments to visit such as Palacio e Quita da Regaleiro, Palacio National de Sintra, Placio National da Pena, Castelo dos Mourous, etc....

We decided to visit only the first 3 one and really, wow, it's amazing! Pictures, more pictures, but nothing will really demonstrate our emotions, our amazement.

However, just to show you, I am the first nutcase to have tried to take a picture of the wind... ok, some more work to do.

Magnifique !
A well deserved lunch in a very nice restaurant, not expensive and not a trap for tourists. It's already 3:30 pm and we decide to leave Sintra for Cabo de la Roca, the most western point of the European continent. Splendid!

To finish the day, the city of Cascais. Very nice, on the sea. Again, the air is vivifying as everywhere in Spain and Portugal so far, although Portugal is the winner. From Cascais, we will take the train tomorrow to go to Lisbon.
C'est On the Rail Again 2....Lisbon
