Battambang, Sihanoukville (12-21 Dec) et 10 jours en France - And 10 days in France

Le compte à rebours pour retrouver tous ceux qui nous sont chers et que l'on aime. Le 20, nous retournerons à Phnom Penh pour prendre le grand oiseau qui nous emmènera loin de ce pays attachant et plutôt surprenant.
The countdown has now started to meet the ones we love. On December 20th, we go back to Phnom Penh to fly away from this rather attaching and surprising country.

Au départ, nous voulions nous rendre à Battambang parce qu'il y avait la possibilité de nous y rendre depuis Siem Reap par bateau genre pirogue TGV moyennant tout de même 8 à 9 heures dans un confort rudimentaire. Le hic, on est rentré dans la saison sèche et le parcours nous a été carrément découragé à cause du manque d'eau.
We wanted to go to Battambang as we had been told that there was a very scenic boat ride from Siem Reap to Battambang although it would take 8 to 9 hours with very little comfort. Unfortunately, during the dry season, there are so many sand banks that we were advised against it.

Bref, Battambang par elle-même n'est pas plus attirante que ça. On y fera un petit tour dans le ''bamboo'' train, un peu surfait, cher mais amusant quand meme. On verra un monastère ou plutôt un groupe de monastères bouddhiques sur une petite montagne située à une quinzaine de kilomètres de la ville et également "The bat cave" dont l'intérêt se précise vers 18h lors de l'envolée par milliers de ces petites créatures sympathiques. Difficile cependant à filmer ou même à photographier...dommage.
Battambang is not that great in the end. We will ride the ''bamboo train'', a little bit overrated, expensive but still fun. We will see some monasteries on top of a hill located about 15 kms way from the city as well as a bat cave. This one is interesting at night when you see thousands of these little animals take their flight away from the cave. Difficult to film or even take pictures... too bad!

Après Battambang, nous décidons de nous rendre à Sihanoukville. Pour y aller, nous serons contraints de retourner à Phnom Penh par bus ( 6h30 ), une heure d'attente et encore un autre 5 heures pour arriver dans le sud de Sihanoukville. Une ville vibrante de vie, plutôt agréable située au bord de la mer de Chine parsemée de quelques baies parmi les plus belles au monde. La, on n'a pas tout compris. Les plages sont comme au Vietnam parsemées de détritus en tout genre. Pauvre planète!
After Battambang, we travel to Sihanoukville. We will have to go back to Phnom Penh by bus ( 6 and a half hours), one hour wait and another 4 and 1/2 hours to arrive in Sihanoukville. Fairly lively, pleasant and on the sea of China with a few bays described as amongst the most beautiful in the world. Well, that's what they say! Most beaches are full of garbage. Poor earth!

C'est d'autant plus dommage que la mer est chaude ( 28 à 30 degrés ). Nous avons quand meme trouve une plage très proprette, ce qui nous permis de nous reposer et de profiter pleinement!
It's really too bad as the water is really warm (28 to 30 degrees). We did find however a very clean beach which allowed us to rest and enjoy!

Notre séjour au Cambodge prend fin ici avant de nous rendre vers Bangkok ( Thaïlande ) puis Hong Kong où nous passerons la nuit pour repartir le lendemain pour Doha ( Qatar ) et finalement Paris. Un parcours en dent de scie et pas ce qu'il y a de plus simple mais là, vraiment, on y est pour rien ou presque. Nous attendons nos enfants une nuit a Paris car ils nous rejoignent de Montreal et Calgary. Ensuite, retour en minibus jusqu'a Angers grace a ma soeurette et a mon cher beau-frère, Philippe.
Our trip in Cambodia finishes here and we will fly back to France through Bangkok (Thailand), then Hong Kong where we will spend one final night, then Doha (Qatar) before Paris. Not the most direct flights, but not much we could do about this. We wait for our kids for one night as they are coming to meet us from Montreal and Calgary. Then, minibus to Angers thanks to my little sister and to my dear brother-in-law, Philippe.

Notre séjour en France est très occupe et l'occasion pour nos enfants de revoir la famille et de rencontrer de nouveaux membres de la famille. Julien est accompagne aussi de son amie québécoise Jennifer. Nous passons donc Noel dans la famille Paumier et surtout célébrons pendant toute une fin de semaine le 60e anniversaire de mariage des parents de Francoise. Ils sont beaux en jeunes maries. Bref, l'occasion de nombreux repas festifs. Nous sommes très heureux de passer ces quelques jours en famille et reprenons la route tous ensemble le 2 janvier 2016! les enfants pour le Canada et nous pour...

Our stay in France is very busy and it gives Thomas and julien the opportunity to see the family again and to meet new members. Julien has come with his French-Canadian girlfriend, Jennifer. We spend Christmas with the Paumier family and we celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Francoise's parents during a week-end. In short, lots of food. We are very happy to spend these few days with the family. We leave altogether on January 2, 2016, the kids to Canada and us, we fly to...
