Après la Corse, nous voici donc rendus en Sardaigne, la seconde île de la mer méditerranée par sa superficie. Quelques chiffres... Environ 1million 700 mille habitants. 8 provinces. Capitale: Cagliari, une ville située au sud de la Sardaigne. La Sardaigne est surtout renommée pour ses plages, sa plongée sous-marine et le wind-surf. After Corsica, we are now in Sardinia, the second largest island of the Mediterranean sea by its size. A few numbers: about 1 700 000 inhabitants. 8 provinces. Capital: Cagliari, a city located in the south of Sardinia. Sardinia is mostly famous for its beaches, diving and wind-surf.

Le drapeau sarde est reconnaissable par ses ''quattro mori'' (quatre têtes de Maures) positionnés à chaque coin et la grande croix rouge de St-George (comme la république de Gênes) qui le divise en 4 parts égales.  Les têtes de Maures étaient à l'origine (1096) représentées avec une orientation inverse à l'actuelle (vers la gauche) quand le Roi Pierre 1er d'Aragon a mené ses troupes à la victoire contre les Maures. En regardant vers la gauche (l'ouest), l'homme fait dos à Rome situé à l'est. En effet, un martyr chrétien d'origine égyptienne, Saint-Maurice a été exécuté pour cause de rébellion par l'autorité romaine. Le drapeau officiel fut adopté en 1999, le bandeau sur le front symbolise maintenant l'esprit de liberté et d'indépendance qui continue de caractériser l'identité sarde vis-à-vis du pouvoir italien et les têtes sont maintenant tournés vers la droite afin d'envoyer un message d'apaisement. The Sardinian flag is recognizable by its "quattro mori" (four Moorish heads) positioned at each corner and the large red cross of St. George (like the Republic of Genoa) which divides it into 4 equal parts. The heads of the Moors were originally (1096) represented with an orientation opposite to the current one (towards the left) when King Peter I of Aragon led his troops to victory against the Moors. Looking to the left (west), the man's back is to Rome located to the east. Indeed, a Christian martyr of Egyptian origin, Saint-Maurice was executed for rebellion by the Roman authority. The official flag was adopted in 1999, the band on the forehead now symbolizes the spirit of freedom and independence which continues to characterize the Sardinian identity vis-à-vis the Italian power and heads are now turned to the right in order to to send a message of appeasement.

Ichnusa, c'est le nom de la compagnie maritime qui relie la Corse à la Sardaigne.  C'est aussi le nom d'une bière produite en Sardaigne depuis 1912. D'ou notre curiosité de savoir ce que cela signifie. Une des hypothèses (que nous aimons) pour le nom de l'ile viendrait du terme ichnusa en grec qui signifie trace de pied. Ce terme fait référence à la forme de l'île par sa ressemblance grossière à un pied d'homme. Ichnusa is the name of the shipping company which connects Corsica to Sardinia. It is also the name of a beer produced in Sardinia since 1912. Hence our curiosity to know what it means. One of the hypotheses (that we like) for the name of the island comes from the term ichnusa in Greek which means footprint. This term refers to the shape of the island by its rough resemblance to a man's foot.

Traversée entre Bonifacio et Santa Teresa di Galluria sans encombre et c'est avec plaisir que nous découvrons notre charmant studio pour 2 jours. Crossing between Bonifacio and Santa Teresa di Galluria without incident and it is with pleasure that we discover our charming studio for 2 days.

Nous visitons la côte... et notamment des petits villages Porto Cervo... Honnêtement, cela ne nous impressionne pas car cela sent l'artificiel, sans doute de jolies criques aménagées pour faire venir des gens fortunés. Bref, c'est vide à cette époque de l'année, sans ambiance ni vie locale. Jolie région vallonnée quand même et toute verte à cette époque de l'année mais pas pour nous ! We visit the coast... and in particular the small villages of Porto Cervo... Honestly, this doesn't impress us because it looks artificial, probably pretty coves designed to attract wealthy people. In short, it's empty at this time of the year, without atmosphere or local life. Pretty hilly region all the same and very green at this time of year, but not for us!

Nous prenons la route pour Alghero et faisons une très brève halte à Castelsardo. We hit the road to Alghero and make a very brief stop in Castelsardo.

Alghero est un joli coup de coeur. La moto est stationnée pour 2 jours dans la cour intérieure d'un B&B. Beaucoup de marche (plus de 15 et 17K chaque jour) pendant ces 2 jours pour visiter la citadelle. Alghero is a lovely favorite. The motorbike is parked for 2 days in the interior courtyard of a B&B. A lot of walking (more than 15 and 17K each day) during these 2 days to visit the citadel.

Le corail d'Alghero appartient à l'espèce Corallium Rubrum. L'or rouge de la Méditerranée est très connu. Il est très prisé dans le monde entier. Son prix est aussi élevé que celui de l'or et son taux ne faiblit pas au fil des années. Ce corail est considéré comme l’un des plus purs et l’un des meilleurs au monde. La mythologie fait aussi référence au corail. Selon la légende il est né du sang de la méduse. Les pouvoirs qu’on lui attribue sont nombreux, il chasserait notamment les mauvais esprits. The Alghero coral belongs to the Corallium Rubrum species. The red gold of the Mediterranean is very well known. It is very popular all over the world. Its price is as high as that of gold and its rate does not weaken over the years. This coral is considered one of the purest and best in the world. Mythology also refers to coral. According to the legend it was born from the blood of the Medusa. The powers attributed to him are numerous, in particular he is said to chase away evil spirits.

Déjà nous nous remettons en route pour Bosa, un peu plus au sud. La route de Alghero à Bosa est absolument magnifique, tout en courbes et au bord de la mer, nous faisant penser légèrement à la route 101 sur la côte ouest des Etats-Unis. Dommage qu'il fasse assez frais. Je n'ai pas pris l'appareil photo pour filmer la côte cette fois. Bosa, un joli village pittoresque dominé par un château médiéval, le Castello Malaspina. Ses maisons colorées se dénotent dans le paysage verdoyant. Nous y passerons la nuit. We are already setting off again for Bosa, a little further south. The road from Alghero to Bosa is absolutely magnificent, all curves and by the sea, reminding us slightly of Route 101 on the west coast of the United States. Too bad it's quite cold. I didn't take the camera to film the coast this time. Bosa, a pretty picturesque village dominated by a medieval castle, Castello Malaspina. Its colorful houses stand out in the green landscape. We will spend the night there.
