Après Genève, nous avons rendez-vous avec notre neveu Antoine dans un gîte dans un petit village, Sirod, près de Champagnole dans le Jura. Et première marche avec Antoine d'environ 10 kms... After Geneva, we are scheduled to meet our nephew Antoine in a furnished appartment in the small village of Sirod, close to Champagnole in the Jura region. And first walk of about 10K with Antoine.

Ensuite, vers le Lac de Chalain aux eaux turquoise et profond jusqu'à 32 mètres. Marche de 9 kms environ. Les héros sont fatigués ce soir... surtout notre neveu qui n'a plus l'habitude de beaucoup marcher. On finit la soirée avec apéro et rillettes de canard au foie gras pour se reconstituer, lol ... Then, toward the Lake of Chalain with its turquoise waters and 32 meters deep. Walk of about 9K. Tonight, the heroes are tired...especially our nephew who is no longer used to walking. We finish the evening with a good drink and some duck rillettes with foie gras to get some energy, lol !
Le lendemain, autre journée moto avec notamment le col de la Faucille, pas très haut (1323 mètres) mais une route très empruntée par les motards. D'ailleurs, beaucoup de traces de gomme sur la route. Les jours passent et ne se ressemblent pas. A Poligny, on se prépare pour le Tour de France. The days go by but there is no routine. The village of Poligny is getting ready to welcome the Tour de France, the famous cyclist race.
A Arbois, dégustation fondue au restaurant la Finette accompagnée d’un verre de vin jaune, spécialité locale.Promenade dans la petite ville ou nous apprenons que Louis Pasteur, inventeur du vaccin contre la rage a vécu ici. In Arbois, we enjoy a fondue in the restaurant ''La Finette'' with a glass of yellow wine, a local specialty. Walk in the small city and we learn that Louis Pasteur, the discoverer of the rabies vaccine spent a lot of his life here.

La tour ocre du clocher de style gothique a été édifiée en 1528. Le clocher culmine à 44 mètres. C'est dans cette église que, chaque premier dimanche de septembre, les vignerons arboisiens offrent à Dieu les prémices de leur récolte. Le Biou - grappe géante formée de petites grappes choisies dans leur vigne - est porté en procession par quatre vignerons à travers la ville avant d'être béni puis suspendu à la voûte de l'église. Cette tradition remonte à 1665. The ocre tower of the gothic style tower was erected in 1528. It's 44 meters high. Every first Sunday of September, the vinemakers of Arbois offer the beginnings of their harvest in this church. The ''Biou'', a giant grape formed by small grapes carefully selected, is carried by 4 winemakers across the city. It's then blessed and suspended in the arch of the church. Puis arrêt à Salins-les-Bains ou nous visitons la Grande Saline, très intéressante avec sa galerie souterraine de 165 mètres de longueur à l’image d’une cathédrale, une roue à augets et un balancier en bois de 32 mètres. C’est un site unique en Europe, inscrit à l'UNESCO ou l’on apprend que le sel est ignigène (provient d'une solution saline, la saumure qui était évaporée ensuite dans de grandes poêles). La mine de sel a été fermée en 1962 à cause de la concurrence et du manque de rentabilité. We end our day by stopping in Salins-les-Bains where we visit the ''Grande Saline'' ( a salt production facility). Very interesting with its underground galery, 165 meter long which looks like a cathedral. We can also see a large water wheel and a 32 meter wooden rocker arm. This site is unique in Europe and part of the UNESCO Heritage. We learn there that the salt is evaporated (the salt comes from a saline solute, the brine is evaporated in large pans). The salt mine was close in 1962 because of competition and lack of rentability.

Nous apprécions beaucoup cette région de France même si nous trouvons l’accueil des gens assez rude. Après tout, on est en montagne et il faut un peu de temps sans doute aux locaux pour sourire. On se met à la place d'un touriste étranger, peu habitué à cela... Les trois jours avec Antoine ont passé très rapidement... et déjà nous nous séparons, lui pour aller reprendre le travail et nous, continuer notre chemin. We enjoy this part of France even if we find the local people to be quite ''rough''. After all, we are in the mountains and the locals probably need some time to smile. We try to imagine being a foreigner, not used to this... The three days spent with Antoine went by very quickly... and we already to have to go our separate ways, Antoine to go back to work and us to continue our trip.
