Tropea, Scilla et Reggio di Calabria, Calabre (April 19-22, 2022)

Ceci dit, la route côtière de Maratea à Tropea est presque dans son ensemble, superbe. Pour l'entretien des routes, on n'est pas perdu, ça nous a rappelé le Québec mais en pire que ce soit en ville, village ou ailleurs. That said, the coastal road from Maratea to Tropea is almost superb as a whole. For road maintenance, we are not lost, it reminded us of Quebec and even worse whether in town, in a village or elsewhere.

Tropea, une belle halte balnéaire, ancien village de pêcheurs perché sur un promontoire, valait bien un arrêt, une ambiance de vacances relaxante , des eaux cristallines, une ville à taille humaine sympathique, vivante où caffe, gelateria, restaurante participent à cette atmosphère où l'on se sent bien.Tropea, a beautiful seaside stopover, a former fishing village perched on a promontory, was well worth a stop, a relaxing holiday atmosphere, crystal clear waters, a friendly, lively town on a human scale where caffe, gelateria, restaurante contribute to this atmosphere where we feel good.

Spécialité locale, les oignons rouges...mais pas seulement, le raisin de table aussi en saison bien-sûr. Les oignons rouges font partie du paysage et se vendent partout où presque et sous toutes ses formes jusqu'à de la confiture. On n'a pas essayé mais on n'a essayé les glaces locales...hum! Local speciality, red onions...but not only, table grapes also in season of course. Red onions are part of the landscape and are sold almost everywhere and in all their forms up to jam. We didn't try but we did try the local ice cream...um!

On ne pensait pas aller à la plage et finalement, je n'ai même pas pu résister ! We did not think we were going to go to the beach and in the end, I could not even resist !

De Tropea à Scilla, une halte intermédiaire avant d'arriver à Reggio Calabria, dernière grande ville faisant face à la Sicile, île que nous aurions aimé parcourir mais faute de temps, restera à découvrir une prochaine fois...du moins, nous l'espérons. From Tropea to Scilla, an intermediate stop before arriving at Reggio Calabria, the last big city facing Sicily, an island that we would have liked to explore but for lack of time, will remain to be discovered next time...at least, we will. 'let's hope.

Scilla, située à moins de 25 kms de Reggio Calabria est un charmant village de pêcheurs, dominé par un château qui a connu des jours meilleurs mais qui donne à l'ensemble un sentiment de calme et de bien-être. C'est aussi ça la Calabre. Scilla, located less than 25 kms from Reggio Calabria is a charming fishing village, dominated by a castle which has seen better days but which gives the whole a feeling of calm and well-being. This is also Calabria.

Finalement, Reggio Calabria, la plus grande ville de la Calabre est située au bord du détroit de Messine, détroit qui sépare la Sicile de la grande botte, est une ville animée et très agréable. 

Finally, Reggio Calabria, the largest city in Calabria is located on the edge of the Strait of Messina, the strait that separates Sicily from the big boot, is a lively and very pleasant city.

Nous reprenons tout doucement la course à pied - We start running again, slowly  !

Flâner le long du bord de mer ou en ville ajoute au charme de cette ville.

Strolling along the seaside or in town adds to the charm of this town.

Parmi les incontournables, le Museo archeologico qui abrite les fameuses statues grecques du 5e siècle avant J.C, en bronze retrouvées intacts ou presque au large de la Calabre, au fond de la mer en 1970, les célèbres "Bronzi Di Riace".

Among the must-sees, the Museo archeologico which houses the famous Greek statues of the 5th century BC, in bronze found intact or almost off the coast of Calabria, at the bottom of the sea in 1970, the famous "Bronzi Di Riace".

Et nous devons reprendre la route vers le nord et la France. Notre voyage vient tout doucement à sa fin. And slowly we have to head back north and towards France. Slowly, our trip is coming to an end...
