Entrée de Sydney, jusqu'à 37 degrés , arrivée à Maroubra, banlieue sud de Sydney, 26. C'est la rencontre du soleil, de la mer et d'un parfum de vacances perpétuel. Bienvenue au temple du surf. Le surf c'est plus qu'une passion, c'est une religion. Il faut dire que les plages, les vagues et un environnement tout à fait remarquable en font un des endroits préférés des amateurs de surf sur Sydney et aux environs.

Maroubra où nous attendaient Liz and Julian. Pendant 4 jours, nous avons expérimenté l'hospitalité australienne. WOW, c'est quelque chose. Je sais que Liz lit notre blog et j'en profite pour la remercier ainsi que Julian pour tout ce qu'ils ont fait pour nous. Incroyable...

Before arriving in Sydney, temperature of 37 degrees. When we arrived in Maroubra, south neighborhood of Sydney, 26. The sun is meeting the sea with a holiday rythm. Welcome to the Surf Country, more than a passion for many, and closer to a religion. The beaches, the waves and the overall environmment makes this area one of the Surf lovers' preferred spot. In Maroubra, Liz and Julian were expecting us and during 4 days, we have experienced the Australian hospitality. Wow ! Amazing! I believe that Liz reads our blog and I take this opportunity again to thank her as well as Julian for what they have done for us.

Alors Sydney ? Sydney avec sa population de plus de 5 millions d'habitants méritent bien qu'on s'y arrête et qu'on lui consacre quelques jours au minimum et bien plus si on en a le temps et l'énergie. Entre l'opéra, une aventure architecturale qui dura 14 ans au coût de 102 millions de dollars australiens, le pont "Sydney Harbour Bridge", ses parcs tels que le "Thé Royal Botanic Gardens" avec ses 30 hectares en plein centre ville,  ses gratte-ciels, ses plages au nombre de 30, son activité portuaire, c'est une ville bouillonnante d'activités et de vitalité avec aussi ses différents quartiers comme le CBD ( centre d'affaires ), le quartier chinois, etc, il y a de quoi faire et il y en a pour tous les goûts.

Sydney, with its population of over 5 million inhabitants is absolutely worth staying a few days and more if you have the time. Between the Opera House (an architectural adventure which lasted 14 years at a cost of 102 Australian dollars) , the Sydney Harbour Bridge, its parks with its Royal Botanic Gardens with its 30 ha in the city center, its skyscrapers, its 30 beaches, its port activity, the city is boiling with activities with its different neighborhoods such as the Chinese precinct or the City Business District (CBD). In short, plenty to do and see.

La seule déception de nos 4 jours passés à Sydney reste la météo. Hormis la première journée où le soleil fut de la partie ainsi que lors de notre départ, le ciel fut couvert et quelquefois menaçant. Résultat, des photos de jours plus ou moins fades. 

The only regret of our 4 days spent in Sydney remains the weather. Except for the first day and our last day when the weather was nice, the sky was cloudy, misty and even sometimes threatening to rain. The result, our day pictures are a little bit clear .

Première journée, tour de la ville avec Liz, notre guide et chauffeur privée. Liz est née à Sydney et elle connaît tous les moindres recoins de cette immense ville, son histoire, ses parcs, ses monuments, et même les célébrités qui y habitent comme Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe. 
First day, city of Liz, our friend, guide and private chauffeur. Liz was born in Sydney and knows all the little corners of this large city, its history, its monuments and even its celebrities who live there such as Nicole Kidman or Russell Crowe.

Avant cela, nous irons découvrir une exposition en plein air appelée "Sculpture by the sea" étendue sur 2 kilomètres le long du bord de mer. Plus de 100 sculptures y sont présentes provenant d'artistes Australians et du monde entier. Exposition annuelle qui dure cette année du 18 octobre au 4 novembre. Après cette mise en jambe, petit déjeuner au bord de la plage de Maroubra.

Prior to this, we will discover an exhibition called Sculpture by the Sea which spreaded over 2 kilometers on the seashore. More than 100 sculptures were shown coming from Australian artists and from all over the world. Annual exhibition which takes place every year and which lasted this year from October 18 to November 4. After this appetizer, brunch on the beach of Maroubra.

Deuxième jour, découverte de la ville en bus Hop on Hop off . Nous découvrirons les incontournables endroits de Sydney tels le Darling Harbour, Pyrmont, Kings Cross and Woolloomooloo, Central Station and Chinatown, City Centre, Circular Quay and The Rocks, Paddington et ensuite celle de l'opéra de Sydney ou nous ferons la visite guidée.  Le soir, nous irons découvrir Sydney by night. Nous prendrons le lunch à "Sydney Fish Market", un endroit géant où l'on vend des poissons et fruits de mer et endroit très primé des australiens et des tours opérateurs. 

Second day, Hop on Hop off bus to discover the city. We rode along Darling Harbour, Pyrmont, Kings Cross and Woolloomooloo, Centra Station and Chinatown, City Centre, Circular Quay and the Rocks, Paddington and finally we will visit the Opera House.  In the evening, Sydney by night. We will have lunch at ''Sydney Fish Market'', fairly big where Australians and tourists who come by the bus load end up sharing the same table.

Le troisième jour, nous déjeunerons dans un restaurant situé au bord de la mer presqu'en face de Sydney, le "Doyle" . Super. Et puis ce mardi était aussi un jour très spécial, très primé et attendu par tous les australiens, la course de chevaux "Melbourne Cup" transmis en direct à partir de Melbourne. L'événement est tellement spécial que les femmes et les hommes s'habillent pour la circonstance en tenue de soirée. En somme un peu comme le Prix de l'Arc de triomphe en France.

On the third day, we will go have lunch on the seaside at Doyle, almost across the Sydney Harbour. Beautiful ! That day was special for the Australians as it was the horse race ''Melbourne Cup'', I guess the equivalent of ''le Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe'' in France. For this event, women and men usually dress up.

Quatrième jour, sortie à l'extérieur de Sydney pour aller parcourir le Royal National Park le long de la côte sud-ouest et la route côtière qui nous mènera jusqu'à Wollongong a un peu plus de 100 kilomètres de Sydney. Notre déjeuner se passera à Crooked River Winery (vignoble), une place délicieuse entre mer et montagne. Seule ombre au tableau, il pleuvra toute la journée ou presque.

On our fourth day, we went to see the Royal National Park along the south West shore of Sydney close to Wollongong, approximately 100 kms away. We will have lunch in a quaint winery, the Crooked River Winery. The only shadow of the day was that it will rain most of the day.

C'est sous un beau ciel bleu que nous quittons Sydney pour Port Macquarie pour une nuit et ensuite Ballina où nous resterons 2 jours pour un temps baignade et remise en forme avant de rejoindre Rick et Tina qui nous attendent à leur résidence dans la charmante ville de Pomona.The sky is blue when we leave Sydney towards Port Macquarie for one night and then Ballina where we will stay 2 days, enough time to swim and run prior to meet with Rick and Tina who are waiting for us at their place in the village of Pomona.






Port Macquarie fut une expérience avec notre nuit passée dans une auberge de jeunesse. Sympa, bruyante, et nous, un peu hors du cadre. Très animée le soir jusqu'à tard mais vraiment très calme le matin...Pour Ballina, nous avons décidé de planter la plante. Nous avons déniché un petit terrain de camping avec quasiment que des tentes, donc pas d'électricité sur aucun site. La mer est à peine à 100 mètres. Le bruit permanent des vagues nous servira de berceuse pendant notre séjour. Soleil, course à pied, baignade, marche à pied, et comme on dit en France "que du bonheur".Port Macquarie was quite an experience with our e have foundnight spent in a youth hostel. Friendly, noisy and us a little bit out of place. Very animated in the evening until late but really very quiet in the morning. For Ballina, we have decided to pitch the tent. We have found  a small campground with almost only tents, therefore no electricity. The sea is not 100 meters away. The permanent sound of the waves will serve as a sleeping pill during our stay. Sun, run, swim walk and as we say in France : only happiness

Ici comme un peu partout le long de la côte appelée "Gold Coast", le surf fait partie de la vie des australiens. On pratique encore et encore et encore. Les requins sont aussi une éventualité mais ici on est philosophe. Les attaques sont rares...et pourtant pas si loin d'ici, dans les Whitsundays, 3 attaques de requins en 2 semaines. Ça fait quand même 2 blessés graves, un y laissera son bras, l'autre une partie de la jambe et un qui ne survivra pas à ses blessures. Nous, on s'est dit que si il y avait d'autres personnes dans l'eau, on était capable de faire la même chose...et presque sans arrière pensée.  Here, as almost everywhere on the Gold Coast, surfing is part of the Australians' life. They train and train some more. Sharks are a possibility. One is philosophical. The attacks happen seldom... however, not very far, in the Whitsundays, 3 shark attacks in 2 weeks. 2  badly hurt, one will loose his arm, the other a part of his leg and one who will not survive the attack. On our side, we saw lots of surfers, therefore we decided to go for a dip.

Et nous voici pour quelques jours chez Rick et Tina dans leur maison très sympa avec piscine. Située un peu à l'extérieur de Pomona, ils ont fait le choix de vivre au calme dans le bush sur un terrain immense parsemée d'arbres de toutes sortes, d'arbres fruitiers, avec comme voisin des kangourous, et d'autres espèces que je n'affectionne pas vraiment. Juste avant notre arrivée, Rick a fait la découverte d'un python de 3 à 4 mètres dans son barbecue. Même Rick ne sait toujours pas comment il a fait pour s'y loger. Quelques mois avant, c'était un python de 4 mètres qui se baladait sur leur toit. J'ai vu les photos....je pense que Rick et Tina se sont restraints pour ne pas nous en dire plus à ce propos. Parce que il y a les pithons mais il y a aussi des "Browns snakes"des mechants, des...et puis des.... Eux, ils ont l'air heureux, en harmonie avec leur environnement. Il paraît que c'est une question d'habitude. Il paraît....And here we are for a few days at Rick and Tina's place, a cosy house with pool. Located outside of Pomona, they have chosen to live in peace in the bush on a huge piece of land with trees of all kinds, fruit trees with kangaroos as neighbors, and other species that I don't really care for. Just before our arrival Rick had found a 3-4 meters long python in his BBQ. Even Rick is not too sure how he got there. A few weeks earlier, hthey had an other 4 meters long python on their roof. I saw the pictures... I think that Rick and Tina refrained from telling me more. Because there are pythons but also brown snakes, bad ones, some... and ...Rick and Tina seem happy, living in harmony with their environment. They say you get used to it, so they say...

Bref, ils nous ont fait faire le tour du proprio, nous avons visité aussi les "Blackhall mountains", une très belle région anciennement volcanique et verdoyante. They gave us a tour of their property, also visited the Blackall mountains and the Glass House Mountains, a very pretty and hilly area and formerly volcanic.

De retour à Brisbane , nous rencontrons à nouveau Patrick, toujours aussi souriant et dynamique. Back in Brisbane, we meet again with Patrick, always smiling and dynamic.

C'est avec regret que nous laisserons l'Australie pour cette fois prendre l'avion pour une nouvelle destination, la Nouvelle Zélande.L'hospitalité australienne ce n'est pas que des mots, c'est du vrai, c'est l'art de donner sans attendre qui que ce soit en retour. À tous nos amis australiens rencontrés lors de notre voyage, Françoise et moi du fond de mon cœur vous remercions pour votre générosité, votre gentillesse et votre sens de l'hospitalité.
This is with regret that we will leave Australia behind to go to a new destination, New Zealand. Australian hospitality is not only a word. It's real, it's the art of giving without expecting anything in return. To all our Australian friends, francoise and i would like to thank you from the bottom of our heart for your generosity, being so nice and your hospitality.
