3 semaines en moto au Québec - Gaspésie (2e partie) - 3 weeks on motorcycles in Quebec - the Gaspe Peninsula (Part 2)

Après la Côte Nord, sauvage et assez peu peuplée, direction La Gaspésie pour en faire le tour à partir de Matane (partie C à F, sur la carte ci-dessous). Nous prenons le traversier du matin entre Baie-Comeau et Matane. After the Northern Coast, wild and not too populated, we head towards the Gaspe Peninsula from Matane (From C to F on the map below). We take the ferry between Baie-Comeau and Matane in the morning.

On avait presque oublié la COVID mais sur le bateau, obligation de porter le masque en tout temps. La traversée dure environ 3 heures, alors, c'est supportable ! Après un petit rappel à l'ordre, on l'a remis ! We had almost forgotten COVID but on the ferry, we have to wear the mask all the time. The crossing lasts about 3 hours, we can this ! After being reminded, we put it on again.

On arrive à Matane et il y a tellement de vent que nous avons un peu de mal à monter la tente.  Spécialité de Matane, les crevettes, alors arrêt obligé dans une poissonnerie locale pour faire le plein et pique nique. We arrive in Matane and the wind is so strong that we are struggling to set up the tent. Matane specialty: Shrimps. We just have to stop in a local fish store to load up and picnic.

Visite de Matane, jolie petite ville mais rien d'extraordinaire: We visit Matane, pretty but nothing extraordinary.

On prend tranquillement la route le lendemain le long du fleuve, Cap Chat. Cap Chat est connu pour être le plus grand parc éolien jamais construit au Canada. We take the road the following day along the Saint-Lawrence river, and arrive Cap Chat. Cap Chat is known to have the largest windfarm ever built in Canada.

A Cap Chat, nous prenons le temps de lire les panneaux d'information concernant la seconde guerre mondiale. Nous ne savions pas que pendant celle-ci, il y a eu la bataille du  Saint-Laurent entre 1942 et 1944 inclusivement et que les sous-marins allemands ont torpillé 23 navires canadiens et étrangers. 42000 canadiens sont morts pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. In Cap Chat, we take the time to read the information panels concerning WWII. We were not aware that between 1942 and 1944, during the Saint-Lawrence battle, the German U-Boats have torpedoed 23 foreign and Canadian vessels. 42000 Canadians have died during WWII.

La route, entre mer et montagne, est splendide, il faut dire que le beau temps, cela donne le moral. Alors, on en profite. The road, between sea and mountains is amazing. Good weather helps too. Let's enjoy !

Une journée au Parc Forillon, camping sur la falaise, pas très pratique, les toilettes à 400 mètres minimum de notre tente. On y reste deux jours, mais nous trouvons que le prix est exorbitant, pour le service rendu (douches moyennement propres, éloignées) alors, j'avoue, on ne paiera pas la deuxième nuit... On ne se croirait pas en période de COVID ou on nous serine les oreilles avec les gestes barrière... Ceci étant dit, nous avons une vue magnifique sur la baie de Gaspé et regardez moi ces couleurs de coucher de soleil ! A couper le souffle ! A day in the Forillon Park, camping on the cliff, not very practical, the washrooms are at least 400 meters from our tent. We stay there 2 days (the showers are not very clean), then I will admit that we decided not to pay for the second night. We would not think that it's COVID time when we just hear about the gestures to prevent to have COVID.

Visite du Parc Forillon avec randonnée au bord de l'eau jusqu'au phare au bout du monde. Comme quoi, pas besoin d'aller loin pour le bout du monde ! ... si on avait su !We visit the park with hike along the water up to the End of the World Lighthouse. Not necessary to go far to reach the end of the world ! ... We wish we had known before ! LOL!

Rassurez-vous, nous ne verrons pas d'ours ! Be cool, we won't see any bears!

On reprend la route dans le parc Forillon pour nous rendre au Cap Bon Ami! On the Road again in the Park to go to the Bon Ami Cape !

Pique-nique au bord de l'eau en soirée et on entend les souffles d'une baleine. Au début, Pompom n'était pas sûr... mais oui, je confirme c'est bien le souffle d'une baleine...merveilleux ! And in the evening, we picnic close to the water and we can hear the breath of a whale. First, Alain was wandering what it was, but I confirm it was the breath of a whale... marvelous !

Et un autre magnifique coucher de soleil ! and another breathtaking sunset !

Descente magnifique en moto sur Percé, petite visite sur la petite ville. C'est encore assez animé avec les touristes qui se promènent le long de la mer et les quelques commerces ouverts. Le Rocher Percé est vraiment impressionnant, sa couleur rougeâtre qui contraste avec le bleu de la mer.  Stunning downhill with our bikes to the village of Perce and we visit the small city. Still quite animated with the tourists that wander along the sea and along the main street with its few shops. Perce's Rock is really impressive, with its reddish colour which contrasts with the blue of the sea.

New Carlisle est le lieu d'enfance de René Lévesque, fondateur du Parti québécois et premier ministre du Québec (1976-1985). New Carlisle is the village where René Lévesque was born. René Lévesque was the Founder of the Quebec Party and the Prime Minister of Quebec (1976-1985).

Notre camping est situé juste en face de l'Espace René Lévesque, alors pas vraiment d'excuse pour ne pas y aller.  Pompom n'était pas chaud pour visiter mais on apprend beaucoup de choses sur le Québec des années 60. En 8 ans, le gouvernement Lévesque a passé plus de 500 lois comme celles sur le financement des partis politiques, la nationalisation des sociétés d'électricité et la création de Hydro-Québec, la création de l'assurance automobile, la loi sur la langue, la loi anti briseurs de grèves. A cette époque là, par exemple, le prix de l'électricité était 6 fois plus élevé en Gaspésie qu'à Montréal. Il y avait de nombreuses sociétés privées bien souvent appartenant à des intérêts américains qui contrôlaient l'électricité au Québec. En fait, il en avait assez que les intérêts des québécois soient gérés à l'extérieur du Québec d'ou l'expression qu'il a utilisé : ''Maître chez nous'' ... Le film de 15 minutes à l'issue de la visite extrêmement émouvant! Bref, une belle visite ! Our campsite is located right in front of the Espace René Lévesque, so no real excuse not to go. Pompom was not enthusiastic to visit but we learnt a lot about the Quebec of the 60s. La Gaspésie, c'est aussi le pays de la Baie des chaleurs. Nous passons à New Carleton mais nous filons par la route 132, petite route assez peu fréquentée et qui tournicote. Sympathique ! Nous nous arrêtons pour faire une ou deux photos à un pont couvert. Gaspésie is also the land of the Baie des Chaleurs. We go to New Carleton but we take Route 132, a small road that is not very busy and which twists and turns. Sympathetic! We stop to take a photo or two at a covered bridge.

Bien que les nuits commencent à être sérieusement fraiches, nous dormons encore en camping, dans le camping de St-Florence, petit village avec 317 habitants ou un dépanneur (petite épicerie) survit tant bien que mal. L'activité principale semble être maintenant la pêche au saumon. Although the nights are starting to be seriously cool, we are still camping, in the St-Florence campsite, a small village with 317 inhabitants where a convenience store (small grocery store) survives somehow. The main activity now seems to be salmon fishing.

On retrouve Micheline et Rémi au Parc du Bic à l'entrée du Parc. Nous voulons monter notre tente, ce qui est fait en 15 minutes car Micheline et Rémi nous attendent aussi pour visiter le Parc. We meet Micheline and Rémi again at the Parc du Bic at the entrance to the Park. We want to set up our tent, which is done in 15 minutes because Micheline and Rémi are also waiting for us to visit the Park.

Et c'est la découverte du Parc ! And we discover the Park !

Rémi et Micheline, à fond ! On part pour aller manger un dessert ! C'est du sérieux ! Remi and Micheline, eager to leave ! we are going for desert ! Serious stuff !

Le lendemain, nous passons chercher Rémi et Micheline à leur motel: The following day, we pick up Micheline and Rémi at their motel:

puis nous prenons la route ensemble direction Rivière-du-Loup. C'est parti ! Then we all head out towards Rivière-du-Loup ! On the Road Again...

Les 3 motos devant 3 fumoirs d'une poissonnerie ou nous faisons quelques provisions pour le soir ! Below the 3 motorcycles in front of 3 small smokehouses of a fish shop. We need to stock up again for supper !

Rivière-du-Loup toujours avec Micheline et Rémi et cette fois, petite auberge. Cela va faire du bien de dormir un peu au chaud et en plus, on peut profiter de la cuisine de l'auberge. Visite de la ville en commençant par le Parc des Chutes! Rivière-du-Loup, still with Micheline and Rémi and this time, small inn. Happy to sleep tonight in the warmth and in addition, we can cook. We visit the city starting with the Park of the Falls !

Nos chemins se séparent pour la dernière fois de ce voyage. Rémi et Micheline ont décidé de rester sur la rive sud du fleuve. Super contents d'avoir passé du bon temps ensemble. Alain et moi voulons retourner vers la région du Saguenay sur la rive nord du Saint-Laurent et revoir le Fjord. On reprend le Ferry...Our paths split up for the last time during this trip. Rémi and Micheline have decided to stay on the south bank of the river. Super happy to have had a good time together. Alain and I want to return to the Saguenay region on the north shore of the St. Lawrence and see the Fjord again. We take the ferry again...
